Yesterday was an historic day in the United States as the largely conservative Supreme Court deemed aspects of the Defense of Marriage Act and California’s Proposition 8, unconstitutional. The U.S. Supreme Court found, 5-4, that denying same-sex couples equal federal rights was illegal. Additionally the court agreed that the petitioners had no grounds on California’s Proposition 8, sending the issue back to the state. It will now be up to California legislators to reinstate same-sex marriage, but it is anticipated that there will be no issues moving forward.
